What happens to balance flats after balloting period?
Wed, Oct 07, 2009
my paper

I REFER to the recent sale of balance flats conducted by the Housing Board.

I notice that some of the flats are located at Linear Green in Bedok. When Linear Green was launched, the response was overwhelming.

I applied for a flat there but was unsuccessful, even after four tries.

Were any balance flats offered to unsuccessful applicants?

I did not receive any notice from HDB about the sale. As my ballots were unsuccessful, my husband and I had no choice but to purchase a flat on the resale market.

This was during the boom years, and we paid a very high cash-over-valuation.

We received our keys last December. However, the flat is still vacant as we did not have any spare cash left for renovations.

If we had known that were still flats for sale at Linear Green, we would have waited to try our luck again.

How does HDB deal with balance flats after the balloting period is over?
