I REFER to the letter from Mr Laurence Tan, 'Loan applicants not informed documents were insufficient' (my paper, April 9).
Mr Tan appealed for a loan from the Housing Board on behalf of his parents in late January as he wanted to withdraw his name from the flat.
We have explained to him that as his parents had enjoyed two HDB concessionary loans previously, they are not eligible for another HDB loan.
Furthermore, based on his parents' income and age, they are not eligible for a loan quantum sufficient for them to take over the existing flat.
We have been in close touch with Mr Tan and his parents since he first appealed at the end of January.
As their appeal for the HDB loan is a major deviation from policy, our officers have tried to help them by requesting further documents to support the appeal.
Unfortunately, these efforts were misconstrued by Mr Tan as causing his family inconvenience.
We have since received all the documents required and will review Mr Tan's appeal and update him on the viable options available to him and his parents.
