MUMBAI, INDIA - About 800,000 employees of Indian banks plan to go on a one-day strike on June 12 for higher wages and to oppose outsourcing, a union representative said on Friday.

Staff at state-run banks, which dominate India's banking, as also at some private sector and foreign banks will participate in the strike, said C.H. Venkatachalam, convenor of the United Forum of Bank Union.

'We have been in talks for wage increase for the past 1-{ years. Now we need them to do it immediately,' he said.
