>The National Environment Agency (NEA) has set up a six-million dollar grant to help defray the course fee of the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) training programme.

Introduced in 2006, the SCEM programme offers formal training and certification for energy managers at two certifiable levels - Associate Level and Professional Level. Engineering professionals are trained in the areas of energy efficiency and energy management.

The grant covers a substantial amount of the training cost at the Professional Level.

Singapore Polytechnic currently offers low-cost training leading to Associate Level SCEM. Trainees can also obtain a Specialist Diploma in Energy Efficiency and Management

The NEA forsees an increased demand for qualified energy managers in large manufacturing and building facilities in the next few years, and aims to have up to 1000 energy managers certified within the next four years.

Eligible applicants for the Professional Level certification can apply for the SCEM training grant if they are degree-holders who have one year of relevant engineering experience, and are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents.
Application forms and eligibility criteria are available on the E2 Singapore website. www.e2singapore.gov.sg
