Here's how to fight unemployment blues

FOR those who have lost their jobs and need to psyche themselves up, here are some tips:

Do something you like

Indulging in activities you enjoy helps improve your mood. If you like fishing, for example, getting out with your line and rod would soothe your mind.

My daily jogging routine sets off a lot of positive vibes in me and never fails to brighten a bad day.

Being jobless also does not mean that you have to be cooped up at home every day.

Many unemployed people I know feel guilty when they leave the house.

This should not be the case; staying at home may contribute to depression.

Seek solitude

It is good to go somewhere where you can be alone and just be yourself.

People need to have time to themselves to sort things out.

This might seem impossible in Singapore, but I have been able to find a few quiet spots to go to when I need some space.

Listen to music

Music has been credited with having a calming effect on the mind and one's emotions.

Abba's Dancing Queen never fails to work its magic on me when I am feeling down.

Talk it out

It is always a relief to pour out your frustrations and fears to someone.

Your best friend would not deny you a chance to share your burdens with him.

People are not meant to live in solitude.

Learn to be humble and share your problems with others.
