The most overused professional buzzwords of 2011

Buzzwords. We're all guilty of it even when we carefully craft our resumes.

Who hasn't been tempted to use words or phrases like "proactive" or "excellent interpersonal and communication skills"?

Professional networking site LinkedIn on Wednesday released the most overused words and phrases in members' LinkedIn Profiles for 2011. While globally "creative" was the most overused, in Singapore, "track record" made it to the top.

The terms that made it to the Singapore top ten are:

  • Track record
  • Motivated
  • Effective
  • Creative
  • Dynamic
  • Innovative
  • Problem solving
  • Communication skills
  • Extensive experience
  • Interpersonal skills

Chan Ngee Key, Career Coach & Strategist at YourOwn360, advises: "Competition for opportunities can be fierce, so craft your LinkedIn Profile to stand out from the professional pack."

He adds: "Some objectives you should keep in mind are: Banish buzzwords from your profile. Use language that illustrates your unique professional accomplishments and experiences. Give concrete examples of results you've achieved whenever possible and reference attributes that are specific to you."
