What's next?

Women clearly have a penchant for and dominance in the service sector. According to the Ministry of Manpower's Labour Force Survey in June 2008, the overwhelming majority of females aged between 30 and 39 work in the service industry.

But in the next five to 10 years, we can expect some diversification out of 'traditional services'. They could start founding companies in the science and research-based sectors such as pharmaceuticals, medical technology, clean energy technology and so on.

With more women confidently marketing their expertise and forging ahead with potentially valuable ideas, business ownership is now no longer an exclusively masculine enterprise.

These resilient risk-takers are sending a clear message to all women out there: it is time women embrace their femininity and be unafraid to stand up and be counted in the business world. And, entrepreneurship could well be the ticket for them to do just that.
