So if you've been too distracted by the bright lights of Marina Bay to explore the indie haunts of Singapore's heritage enclaves, now's a good time to reacquaint yourself with them. BT Weekend takes you on a quick tour of some of the areas' new offerings.
Telok Ayer/Ann Siang
This used to be known as a place for Chinese clans to gather but now you're likely to find the niche shopper poking around for fashionable buys instead. At Hide & Seek (176 Telok Ayer Street 6222-2825), you'll find everything from ultra-cool Nooka watches designed by New York artist Matthew Waldman, to an entire floor of niche scents such as those from French label Histoires de Parfums. The boutique, which moved from its previous location at Hong Kong Street in May, occupies a three-storey shophouse and has its own elevator. On hot days, the friendly service staff hand out a delicious home-made rose-lime beverage in black crystal flutes so you can sip and shop simultaneously.

Once you've cooled down and loaded up, trundle down to Trolley (88 Club Street 6220-6898), another recent relocator. This cool white-and-concrete store, which moved from Amoy Street in May to a space twice the size of its previous premises, stocks quirky items such as laptop cases that look like manila envelopes, as well as products from Italian homeware label Seletti. If you're looking for something local, well, here's a good place to find it too: the new boutique carries an expanded product selection, which includes a range of made-in-Singapore items such as consoles, chairs and one-off home accessories.
