Power up that old PC

Never mind if you have missed buying a new PC before the GST hike this month. Go for upgrades instead.
And now is a good time because prices of computer components have been falling to attractive levels of late - for anything from memory devices to LCD screens.

For instance, a 20-inch Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP LCD monitor that cost $799 last year now goes for just $549.

For gamers, there are new DirectX 10 graphics cards, which promise to show snazzier graphics in Windows Vista games that support new visual effects like motion blur.

Until recently, DirectX 10 cards like those using Nvidia's GeForce 8800GTX chip can cost up to $1,000 because of the immense graphics power they offer. In the past few months, however, there have been more DirectX 10 cards available, and at much more attractive prices.

For those who are less price conscious, there are also components that bring on the bling.

Like a DeathAdder. The mouse from gaming equipment maker Razer will let you turn faster in games as well as offer eye candy with its glowing lights.
