Internet Explorer hangs

Hanging browser

My Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) takes about five to 10 minutes to open. Sometimes, it even hangs.

However, if I use Firefox or Safari to access the Internet, I do not have problems opening the browser.

I have re-installed IE7 but the problem still exists. This problem started only recently. I do not remember installing any new programs but I did not renew my anti-virus licence. My notebook is four years old.

What could be the problem?

Given the limited information that you have supplied, it is difficult to diagnose your problem.

Since the only thing to go by is the expiry of the anti-virus software, it could well be that Windows Defender is enabled in its place.

This software has been known to conflict with other anti-virus software. Go to Start, Settings,

Control Panel, Windows Defender to disable it and check if your IE7 is loading up faster.

My other suggestion is to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 which I find much faster, easier and safer to use.

To upgrade, point your browser to: http://www.microsoft.com/ windows/internet-explorer/
