FOR the first time, commuters will be able to top up their ez-link cards via their mobile phones.

Top & Tap, the new remote top-up service that allows OCBC Mobile Banking customers to draw funds from their OCBC bank accounts for their ez-link card needs, was launched last Wednesday.

To top up, users log in to their OCBC mobile-banking accounts and enter the nine-digit ez-link card number found on the back of the card.

The cardholder - or a child whose parent has authorised the top-up via mobile banking - then taps his card at an EZ-Online Station or a personal computer terminal that has an ez-link card-reader, OCBC said in a press statement.

At the moment, only five EZ-Online stations - at Bugis, Raffles Place, Tanjong Pagar, Orchard and Ang Mo Kio MRT stations - are available islandwide. Nine schools also have the ez-link card reader.

The new service will mean more convenience for working adults, and busy parents who can ensure that there is sufficient value in their children's ez-link cards without having to go to a certain location, said Mr Patrick Chew, OCBC Bank's senior vice-president and head of delivery, in the press statement.

OCBC Mobile Banking and EZ-Link aim to eventually have all schools provide the Top & Tap service.
