THERE is a whole lot more fun game content for avid gamers at the Games Convention Asia - it attracted 118
exhibitors, up from 81 for last year's inaugural event.
Exhibitors include Singapore-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Gambit Game Lab, and Electronic Arts from the United States. Not surprisingly, there are many more visitors - over 92,000, a leap from 70,000.
'This year's event is bigger and better, which is a step in the right direction,' said Mr Tom Crago, president of the Game Developers' Association of Australia and head of Australian game company Tantalus.
The three-day event, which ended last Saturday and was organised by Leipziger Messe International Asia, was a money-roller for some exhibitors.
'Our forecast revenue is about $1 million,' said Mr Addison Kang, head of Cherry Credits, a local online game-payment service provider.
For Mr Kwon Joon Mo, chief executive officer of Korean company Nexon that made the popular online game MapleStory, it was a fruitful experience.
He said the convention gave him "the opportunity to network, share information and broaden my horizon".
Aside from industry talks, there was also a business centre as well as game and cosplay competitions.
And it wasn't just the typical male geeks who turned up. With her manager husband and two excited young boys in tow, gourmet consultant Celian Leong was also a keen visitor.
However, the ex-gamer had one lament: 'For girls, there aren't many games we can choose from.'
