Miley Cyrus Twitter account hacked

Miley Cyrus had her Twitter account suspended temporarily after it was hacked into and offensive messages posted. They have since been removed and her account is active again.

Fans of the 17-year-old star who shot to fame in Disney's Hannah Montana saw this message for a period of time: "Sorry, the account you were headed to has been suspended due to strange activity. Mosey along now, nothing to see here."

The "strange activity" referred to messages such as "IM NOT A F***KING ROLE MODLE I HATE LITTLE KIDS I ONLY DO HANNAH MONTANNA FOR DA $$$$$$$$$" and "ME AND MANDY HAD SEX IN HANNAH MONTANNA WIGS".

Miley Cyrus is not the only celebrity to have her online security compromised and accounts hacked. In January this year, 30 celebrities including US President Barack Obama and pop princess Britney Spears had their twitter accounts broken into.

Earlier, there was also a phishing scam on Twitter where Twitter users could have been tricked into logging on to a false Twitter front page.

"This is just the latest hacking incident to happen on Twitter and chances are it's not going to be the last," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, an IT security and control firm.

"Cybercriminals are only ever one step behind the latest computer craze and as tweeting has been growing in popularity, the hackers have been quick to realise the potential in hacking these accounts.

"It appears that Miley didn't learn the lesson last year and hasn't been taking enough care over her password security to avoid the same fate, other users should make sure they choose strong passwords that can't be easily cracked, and Twitter itself should play a key part in enforcing this."

Last year, Miley Cyrus's email account was also hacked into and photos of her baring her midriff and "posing provactively" in her underwear were leaked online.

She was also recently accused of making fun of Asians when she posed for a photo with her eyes pulled back. The Organisation of Chinese Americans requested an apology from her for the racial insensitivity.
