THE prices of cameras and camcorders usually do not go down much during the IT Show. What most vendors do is throw in a whole bunch of freebies to sweeten the deals.
There are always one or two super deals, though, and usually only available if you go early or ask, since there're always limited sets.
Here are some of the deals we spotted today
Canon (4th floor)
Flash memory camcorders are going for prices from $799 to $2,599. Nothing new there. But for every such camcorder you buy, Canon will throw in a still camera - either the Ixus 870is or Powershot 1000/2000 - worth about $300 to $550. You do need to register your camera online to qualify for this deal, though.
Nikon (4th floor)
The 6.1-megapixel Nikon D40 entry-level DSLR camera and kit are going for $688 at the show, along with free tripod and Nikon bag. With any purchase of a Nikon DSLR, you can also buy the SB 900 Speedlight at $599 (UP$789) or the AF-S DX 55-200mm lens for $349 (UP$499).
If you're looking to buy two cameras, the Coolpix L16 point and shoot costs $199 for the first set, and $99 for the second one. That's an average price of $149 for a 7.1-megapixel point-and-shoot with 2.8-inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom.
Sony (4th floor)
The best deals at the Sony counter were the 10.1-megapixel W170 at $369 (UP$499) and 7.2-megapixel W120 $199 ($319). Both point-and-shoots also come with freebies like extra battery, memory cards, carrying case, mini tripod, screen protector and cleaning kit.
JVC (4th floor)
This deal was not advertised widely, because of the limited sets available, but the GZ-MG575 camcorder with 40GB hard disk drive and SD card slot is going for $799 (UP$1,899). Another camcorder, the GZ-MG505 with 30GB hard disk drive and SD card slot was selling for $899 (UP$2,299).
Olympus (4th floor)
Instead of just cutting prices and offering freebies, Olympus is absorbing the seven per cent GST too at the IT Show. That means any camera you buy there will be at least seven per cent cheaper than at retail stores. Since Olympus has also slashed prices for some of the cameras at the IT Show, that means evenj more savings. For example, the M1050SW waterproof camera was going for $448 (UP$548).
Fuji (4th floor)
At 10-megapixel, with 5x optical zoom and wide-angle, the Fuji Finepix J150W is a steal at $279 (UP$299). It's not a lot cheaper than its retail price, but you get freebies like an 8GB SD card, card reader, camera case, mini tripod and screen protector.
Panasonic (4th floor)
If you don't need wide angle, the Panasonic DMC-LZ8 also has 8.1-megapixel resolution and 5x optical zoom, and is going for $199 (UP$349). Or if you have been eyeing the DMC-LX3 that uses the wide-angle Leica lens, it is selling for $799 at the IT Show, with two pieces of 8GB SDHC card, camera case, mini tripod and lens cleaning kit.
Ricoh (4th floor)
This was the cheapest camera deal of the day, and it was sold out in less than 15 mins. There are only about 20 sets of the Ricoh R5 7-megapixel camera on sale a day, at $99 (UP$299). The Ricoh booth also had a special promotion for those who want to pimp their Ricoh CX1, GRII and GX200 with Swarovski crystals. Just top up $50, and you can collect your pimped camera on the same day.
Casio (4th floor)
Casio was having a trade-in offer at its booth. But it turns out they were also offering the discounted prices without trade-ins. The 10.1-megapixel EX-Z300 was going for $349 ($499) after prices were slashed at around 1230pm today. The camera hs a 30inch LCD screen and 4x optical zoom, plus wide-angle lens.
Samsung (4th floor)
Samsung's ultrawide angle camera, the WB500, is going for $599 at the IT Show. The 10-megapixel camera also has 10x optical zoom. Although the price is not cheaper than retail, you will get freebies like an 8GB and 4GB SD card, card reader, LCD protector, camera case, extra battery and cleaning kit.
