BUSINESSMAN Eric Ho was attracted to the latest Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20 because of its sleek, lightweight design.
It is just 12.8mm thick and weighs only 99g. But what really won over the 30-year-old was its global positioning system (GPS), which helps him save precious time while on the go.
Mr Ho once took only 10 minutes to get to a meeting, thanks to the nuvifone's realtime GPS, which showed him the quickest route to use.
That's a far cry from spending up to another 30 minutes flipping through road directories or getting lost while en route to an unfamiliar location.
And since Mr Ho spends most of his time driving from one client meeting to the next, time is money.
"The phone has voice commands that will guide me while I'm driving, so I can focus on the road and not have to keep checking a map," said Mr Ho.
And to make things easier, Mr Ho need only highlight the name - or even a photo - of a location in a text message and, at the press of a button, the phone will start giving him directions to his destination.
This feature also works with locations given in e-mail or websites.
The nuvifone's Internet and computer-like features were what prompted polytechnic student Ang Lim Sheng, 18, to buy it.
"It's like a mobile desktop. Besides using it to browse the Internet or visit Facebook, I can edit and view wordprocessing documents with it too," he said.
