In what is likely a bid to woo the college crowd, Apple has released a new version of its entry level laptop - the white plastic MacBook.
Apple had given its only plastic notebook computer a much needed facelift and hardware improvements, considering that the last time a significant update came about a year back.
The new MacBook now features the same unibody design that is consistent with the computer maker's aluminum chassis models.
A refreshed, rounded-edge design also comes across as more classy-looking and and feels better to hold. Users will also like the glass trackpad similar to the Pro models and is capable of all the new gesture functions.
Connections-wise the MacBook has the standard two USB ports, an Ethernet port, a Mini Display port and an audio port. Of the ports that Apple had left out, I missed the SD card reader the most, which was quite a pity as it had proved very handy and useful in the Pro models.
Those who plan to take this notebook on trips would like the MacBook's promise of a 7-hour long battery life. At 2.13 kg, this notebook isn't a lightweight champion, but I did not find it any trouble to bring around.
The MacBook is packed with a more powerful processor and an updated LED-backlit glossy 13.3-inch screen. Casual gamers and movie buffs alike will apprecite Apple's update to the MacBook's new, brighter screen.
Apple's MacBook ships with the Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife suite installed.
The Verdict
Users looking for an inexpensive, functional computer will find that this entry-level MacBook has plenty to offer.
