Just don't buy orange juice

Chalart Sue magazine - Smart Buyer - says we ought to think twice about the orange juice we buy.

Twentytwo samples were tested, and most contained more sugar and less Vitamin C than was claimed on the package.

One 200ml carton boasting 100-per-cent orange juice with "no sugar added" actually had about 5.5 teaspoons of sugar. A 330ml sample of 40-per-cent juice from another brand had 12 to 15 teaspoons of sugar - double the level found in soft drinks.

Claims of 100-per-cent juice fell short in other cases, where there was less than 10ml of Vitamin C.

The magazine advises people to either make their own fresh orange juice or simply drink water. For details on the 22 tested brands, call (02) 248 37347.
