PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: The Malaysian manufacturer of Famous Amos Chocolate Chip cookies has assured consumers that it does not use contaminated dough at any of its outlets.

Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookie Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd general manager Jesrina Liew said the outlets were selling cookies that were not affected by the American product recall.

"We are providing full cooperation to the Health Ministry which is conducting further tests to validate this fact.

 "As an established brand with a long history in Malaysia, we remain committed to provide our customers with safe and high quality products.

"Food safety is of utmost priority and customers can be assured that Famous Amos will take the necessary precaution to preserve the safety of our products," said Liew in a statement.

It was reported on Friday that Health Ministry's pharmaceutical services director Eisah A. Rahman had said ministry officials had conducted an investigation and found the company used dough, which was imported from the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

They had received information that the dough, which might have been contaminated, was exported to Malaysia for use by the manufacturer. Results showed that the dough in the peanut butter and peanut paste was imported from the PCA.

The dough, which is used at three of its outlets at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Sungai Wang and the KL International Airport were recalled by the manufacturer.

The ministry said product checks were being conducted through its food safety and information system.
