8. Soya

When soy consumption goes up, your weight goes down. Studies at the University of Illinois in the US found soy protein interacts with the receptors in our brain that tell us we're full. And that's not all: "It also boosts metabolism and reduces fat in the body," says Dr Tickell.

Our advice: Go to the supermarket and buy a packet of frozen edamame. To prepare, microwave according to package instructions. You can also pop over to the nearest Sakae Sushi (sakaesushi.com.sg) and order a portion. Eat, enjoy and watch the weight fall off. Soy far, soy good.
