A LOCAL supermarket chain will be the first retailer to be prosecuted for selling China dairy products, in defiance of the ongoing ban on them by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA).
The Serangoon and Balestier Road outlets of I-Tec Supermart have been caught with banned China dairy products still on their shelves by officers from the food-safety agency, said AVA spokesman Goh Shih Yong.
The find followed a tip-off from The Sunday Times, which on Sept 20 found in some I-Tec outlets the bottled version of Dutch Lady strawberry milk, by then declared melamine-tainted. China-made items such as packs of Monmilk milk were also prominently displayed in the outlets.
