BRAND'S Essence of Chicken - popular with Singaporeans as a health supplement - was recalled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) because of "issues with import regulations".

Its manufacturer, Cerebos Pacific, said yesterday in a statement that the product is safe for consumption.

The recall was not due to food-safety concerns, the statement said.

The company is in the process of addressing the issues so imports can resume, said a spokesman. A release last Thursday by USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) maintained that "FSIS has received no reports of illness as a result of consuming this product".

Cerebos said that its essence of chicken is manufactured according to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards. It is approved for import by the authorities in Singapore, Japan, Germany, Britain and France, among others.
