Following the first H1N1-related death last Saturday, Singapore reports two more deaths today.

One was a 13-year-old boy who died of complications this morning.

He was admitted to the National University Hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on July 19. Laboratory tests confirmed he had Influenza A (H1N1-2009).

The teenager was suffering from epilepsy and had a heart attack in the paediatric ICU earlier this morning.

Third death

Later in the afternoon, a 55-year-old H1N1 patient also died.

The man was suffering from motor neuron disease and, after two days of fever and increasing shortness of breath, was admitted to Changi General Hospital (CGH) on July 18. Laboratory tests confirmed that he was infected with Influenza A (H1N1-2009). When he suffered cardiac arrest, he was admitted to the hospital's ICU.

According to a Ministry of Health's (MOH) statement, "the cause of death was severe pneumonia with advanced motor neuron disease and underlying Influenza A (H1N1-2009)".

MOH also said that a 42-year-old female foreigner with a history of hypertension and is overweight has sought treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital's (TTSH) Emergency Department today, after suffering shortness of breath for three days.

"She was found to have low oxygen saturation and low blood pressure. Laboratory test confirmed that she has Influenza A (H1N1-2009). She is currently on a ventilator and is in critical condition," the ministry said.
