The actress has two sons, Joshua, 11, and Jivan Wei, one. She is married to R. Chandran, 52, founder-director of Act 3 Theatrics.

Weighing in: She put on 11kg during her first pregnancy and lost the baby fat after six months. During her second pregnancy, she put on 9kg and also lost it over six months.

How did you lose the weight?

I knew I wasn't going to put stress on myself to lose weight for the first four months for both pregnancies.

When I had my first child, I was not stressed about losing weight at all as my first priority was to produce milk. But I was more concerned about weight loss after I had my second kid as I was older and felt that it would be harder to lose weight.

So I focused on eating nutritious food as well as getting enough rest. It was only around the fifth month when my milk supply became more established that I watched my diet more carefully and started to exercise a little by running and doing stretching exercises. That was when I started to lose more weight.

What do you think of the weight-loss techniques of Hollywood mums?

Everyone has a different body type. Some are able to lose weight naturally without thinking about it while others have to be more careful. So long as there is no crash dieting or obsessive exercising involved and the mother has the energy to do what needs to be done, I say it's okay.

Being a celebrity, I did feel some pressure to lose the weight, but my priority was to ensure that my baby got all the nutrients he could in my breast milk, so it was essential that I ate sufficiently and healthily. Weight loss can be dealt with after that.

What are your weight-loss tips?

Savour your food, go for walks, eat healthily but allow for indulgences. Slot in some time for massages too. They are a great way to connect with your body and relax.
