Abyzz goes to Berlin

Abyzz isn't the most prophetic name for Desmond Yang's fashion label. Instead of falling into a dark hole, the Singaporean designer's career is reaching new heights.

Yang, 33, has been invited to showcase his latest collection at the InFashion Berlin show in the German capital next month.

He will be one of 17 young designers from nine countries in the Asia-Pacific region to show off their creative mettle.

Yang's collection, titled Duality, comprises menswear-inspired womenswear.

Smart cuts and details transform garments into feminine silhouettes - tops can be worn as bottoms and skirts can be transformed into bags.

No word on whether trousers can be worn as hats, though.

Last year, he scored export deals with retailers in the United States, the Philippines and Taiwan after showing at Singapore Fashion Week in October.

He also participated in the Singapore Fashion Festival earlier this year.

InFashion Berlin, a trade-oriented event, will take place from Sept 20 to 22 and is expected to draw 5,000 visitors.
