Hot & cold treatment

BodyTech Perfectionist System is Marie France Bodyline's latest treatment. Touted as the first in the industry, it aims to address in one shot five common figure woes that women have: excess fat, cellulite, stretch marks, flabby, saggy skin and fine lines and wrinkles.

How it works: The 1½-hour treatment aims to zap fat and cellulite while improving skin tone, circulation and energy flow.

A pre-session consultation first determines your problem areas. Then you get onto the heated bed and a small suction cup is placed on specific acu-points on the body to perk it up.

Two suction cups are then put on the target areas to boost circulation and drainage in what is called 'pressotherapy'. This aims to reduce water retention and cellulite.

BodyTech Perfectionist Serum is slathered onto the body in the next stage called 'cryotherapy', which involves extreme cold.

A cold, flat, gold-plated applicator is placed on various parts of the body and tiny jolts of electric current passed through it to help boost the serum's penetration.

The hand-held applicator works like a massager as it is moved around the body in circular motions.

The cold constricts the blood vessels, which ensures the active ingredients are not carried away in the blood stream but work on the targeted spots.

A mask consisting of co-enzyme Q10 and bird's nest extracts is then applied on top of the serum and the body wrapped in cling film for about 20 minutes to allow the nourishing mixture to be absorbed by the skin.

What it uses: The BodyTech Perfectionist Serum is also billed as a first in the industry that contains three active ingredients, each with a job to do.

- CafeiSilane C, derived from organic silicon and boosted with caffeine, busts fat cells and inhibits an enzyme that converts fatty acids into fat.

- The multi-functional Bodyfit complex is from a plant-based ingredient called Glaucine that alleviates water retention, reduces the size of fat cells, strengthens the elastin and collagen network and fights cellulite.

- The Regestril complex, made with green bean extract and plant-based antioxidants, tightens and firms up the skin by promoting tissue regeneration and reduces stretch marks.

- Nanospheres 100, an improved 'carrier' system in the serum, transports these active compounds more effectively and enhances penetration and absorption because of the tiny particle sizes.

How much it costs: The first session costs $168 and subsequent treatments are priced at $225 each for now. The number of sessions depends on individual needs.

You can also take the serum home in 200ml bottles that cost $200 each.

Where to go: Marie France Bodyline has seven centres here, including 08-01 International Building (tel:1800-235-8030), 01-200 Marina Square (tel:1800-222-0188) and 02-37 Jurong Point Shopping Centre (tel:1800-790-7737).
