The lady is a vamp

At a workshop to update us on hot global trends last week, Club21 Accessories stylist Chalisa Werawan picked out the best of Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Pierre Hardy, Sergio Rossi, Manolo Blanhnik, Comme des Garcons, Jil Sander, Dries Van Noten, Globe Trotter, Claire Rodallec, Balenciaga, Liberty of London and more.

This season's shoes, said Chalisa, "are making a statement with new shapes and sculptured heels. Boots are coming in a variety of lengths, ankle being the most suitable for Thailand.

"Ornate flat shoes are still 'in', with intricate and funky designs using new colours and jewellery or unusual fabrics like lace. But the hottest footwear is the Mary Jane for it sexy combination of high heels and thin straps."

Bags come in various designs, shapes and colour schemes, with violet, metallic sheen and lace popular.

Chalisa presented four looks, showing how simple it is to transform them with accessories. The classic black dress got an injection of extra style thanks to shoes with an eye-catching bow at the back and a big necklace.

"Matching colours doesn't matter. A grey jump suit, yellow tights, ankle boots and an oversize shocking pink bag will create a fun look. But swap the bag for a classic clutch in gold, and suddenly you look more mature and sophisticated," she explained.

For eveningwear the advice was to sparkle with jewellery, bag or shoes, then simply slip on a more graphic and futuristic necklace and flat shoes to transform the look to daytime respectability.

Men got more than ties, with slim-fit suits for the classic-gent look, more rounded shoes and sophisticated bags and briefcases.

"The schoolboy/nerd look is quite trendy as well," Chalisa added. "Graphic-or-cartoon-pattern shoes and a messenger bag contrasts with a neat hairstyle for a new type of nerd."
