Act on bad traffic situation in Geylang

THE traffic conditions in three spots in Geylang - between Aljunied Road and Lorong 14 Geylang Road; around the junction of Geylang and Aljunied roads; and Sims Avenue, between Geylang lorongs 7 and 19, are poor.

Anyone travelling in the area would be frustrated.

It could take you longer than 15 minutes to navigate this stretch of less than 100m.

The pavement is occupied by tables and chairs, and pedestrians are forced to walk on the road.

Cars are parked illegally on double-yellow lines before a traffic light on both sides of the road.

I have the following questions for the authorities:

Are shop owners allowed to put tables and chairs on pavements?

Why are cars allowed to park along double-yellow lines, especially before a traffic light near the Aljunied Road junction?

If it is because of a seafood resturant located there, are there plans to relocate the restaurant?

Even as millions are being spent to improve highways and roads, the traffic situation and road-safety issues in Geylang should not be neglected.
