Mazda RX8 sends another car flying into a packed coffeeshop

60 people escaped for their lives when a car flew into a coffeeshop in the early hours of Sept 11.

A Mazda RX8 sped from Syed Alwi Road into Jalan Besar and crashed into two other cars, causing one of them to fly into a coffeeshop.

The accident left four injured. All four were hospitalised.

An eyewitness recounted to Shin Min Daily that the RX8 driver exited from Syed Alwi Road and suddenly crashed into a moving white car along the main road of Jalan Besar.

Due to the huge impact, the white car, a Honda Fit, flew into a crowded coffeeshop. A silver car parked next to the coffeeshop was also damaged.

The eyewitness told Shin Min that the Honda Fit flew into the coffeshop and knocked over the chicken rice stall. Confusion reigned and screams could be heard as the customers scattered in a flash.

Another eyewitness said: "The driver of the white Honda Fit seemed to suffer the worst injuries. He was knocked back into the passenger's seat from the driver's seat. Three or four bystanders had to help him out of the car."

A man wearing a white cap was later seen handcuffed by the police and escorted into a police car.

The eyewitness said after the accident, the driver of the Mazda RX8 appeared listless and incoherent.

According to Shin Min, the driver, a 38-year-old Chinese male, was arrested on suspicion of drug use. Police later discovered pills in his car.

A police spokesman said a 38-year-old Chinese had been arrested for drug-related offences. Police investigations are currently ongoing.
