my paper
Barriers on pavements to deter motorists

I READ with interest the letter, "Prioritise lift upgrades for blocks with seniors" (my paper, Oct 23).

Other residents also need them, especially those who shop weekly for the household or have young children who need to use prams.

My block is under the purview of Sembawang Town Council. It is four storeys high and there are no lifts.

Lifts are being installed under the lift-upgrading programme in some blocks near mine.

I would be glad if the same could be done for my block as residents have difficulties carrying their shopping bags up the stairs.

I also hope the town council could consider building concrete barriers at the pavement near Marsiling Primary School as many motorcyclists park their bikes there.

The barriers there now are on the side of the pavement, and do not deter motorcyclists who park there at night to avoid paying charges at nearby carparks.

They also create a disturbance as they rev their engines loudly in the middle of the night.

Another possible solution would be to have more parking wardens patrol the carparks.
