Wrong time to raise public- transport fares
Fri, Sep 19, 2008
my paper

I REFER to the recent announcements that bus and MRT fares will be increased from Oct 1.

This is not the time to increase public-transport fares.

The price of oil is going down, and fares just went up by 2 to 3 cents last year.

The economy is not doing well, and as everyone is trying to tighten their belts, the Public Transport Council (PTC) should try and help commuters instead of adding to their burden.

Many people, including myself, gave feedback to the PTC.

However, our feedback seems to have been ignored as the fare increase is going ahead.

I hope the PTC could relook the issue as it affects many people.
