Man pretends to be cop to intimidate driver

Road-rage prone motorists beware.

The next time a motorist causes you to be overwrought with road rage, do not attempt to intimidate the other party by posing as a police officer. You'll be arrested as someone found out to his dismay.

A male passenger attempted to intimidate another driver by claiming he was a police officer from the Secret Society branch, according to a Stomp report.

The incident happened on June 2 at Plaza Singapura's multi-storey carpark.

Sam, the reader who e-mailed Stomp said the incident happened because his friend was "driving cautiously up the slope of the carpark" for the safety of his pregnant wife beside him.

According to the reader, the design of the humps had made it difficult to manoeuvre.

But there was a white Tuscani behind which kept honking.

Sam said, "At first my friend continued travelling slowly but the honking got more and more irritating."

In the end his friend stopped his car and walked to the Tuscani to find out what was the problem.

Instead, the Tuscani's passenger came out and claimed he was from the Secret Society Branch.

Yet when asked for identification, the passenger was unable to show one. His only retort? That the guy was driving really slowly.

Sam's friend then proceeded to explain about his wife's pregnancy and how he had to drive slowly.

During this time, the wife came walking over while recording a video of the entire conversation with her handphone.

The passenger, Sam's friend described, then came over and tried to stop the recording.

The situation was only defused when a third party came out from another car and asked them to shift aside if there were no injuries.

Sam told Stomp, "My friend took this opportunity to end the situation, walked back to his car and drove off."

He then made a police report over the phone and gave a full statement.

In response to the Stomp report, a police spokesperson have confirmed that the man is not a police officer.

"In fact, police have arrested the 32-year-old Chinese man following a police report made."

"Preliminary investigations revealed that he had mentioned that he was a police officer to scare the complainant.

"Investigations are still ongoing."
