Base road tolls on speed limits

IT WAS reported in the press that motorists are concerned that Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) would be implemented on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway because of a 30 per cent increase in the volume of traffic.

If speed is a criteria for ERP charges, then we should move from time blocks to speed blocks when it comes to deducting tolls.

With this change, there would be no need for ERP gantries. Speed sensors would be used instead.

Drivers could be penalised if they drive below the minimum speed limit and above the maximum speed limit.
