Bull causes deadly highway mishap

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia: A bull wandered on to the North-South Expressway with tragic consequences, leaving a 55-year-old man dead.

The incident near the Rawang exit of the expressway yesterday also caused a three-car pile-up and injured five other people. The animal also died.

According to Selangor Public Order and Traffic police chief Supt Che Hussin Omar, the 100kg animal wandered on to the fast lane of the expressway at about 6.30am and was hit by a BMW.

The impact hurled the animal about seven metres away into the slower lane, where a Perodua Viva tried to avoid it but crashed into the metal railings along the roadside, killing the driver.

Meanwhile, the BMW overturned and a Nissan Frontier truck following close behind it with three people inside, rammed into the car.

"The deceased suffered severe injuries to the head and chest," Supt Che Hussin said, adding that the Fire and Rescue Department was called in to help recover the body, which was then sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem.

Five others involved in the accident received out-patient treatment for minor injuries, he said.
