I AM not surprised that fewer people are using public transport during the morning peak hour.
I am a car owner but occasionally travel by MRT, but rarely by bus.
My first experience with the bus-arrival time display panels has convinced me that the service is useless.
Last Wednesday, I arrived at the bus stop in Victoria Street opposite Bugis Junction at about 3.45pm, hoping to hop onto service No. 851.
The electronic display panel indicated that the bus was expected to arrive in three minutes.
Three minutes later, the panel indicated that 851 had arrived, but there was no bus in sight.
I waited for the next bus, which the panel indicated was scheduled to arrive in seven minutes.
It was a good thing I did not wander around the nearby shops, as the bus arrived in less than three minutes.
Perhaps regular bus commuters could give feedback on the accuracy of the system.
If it is incapable of indicating accurate arrival times, the money spent to maintain it could be put to better use.
