I HAVE a few issues with our train system.
I am a student who commutes to school daily on trains and buses, and I find that the morning train heading towards Jurong East can sometimes take at least five minutes to arrive. Worse, passengers are often not allowed to board some trains because they are too crowded.
Sometimes, the display showing train-arrival times is not accurate too. This causes inconvenience, as many people would rush to the platform after seeing the display, only to find out that the trains have already left.
Accurate arrival timings are essential to help passengers avoid wasting time.
Singapore should have a public- transport timetable like Japan, whose trains adhere strictly to schedule.
Though the frequency of trains in Japan is not really high, the punctual arrival timings offset the disadvantage of having fewer trains as people can then plan their journeys with certainty.
I understand the difficulty of having a timetable for buses because of unpredictable traffic conditions, but surely it cannot be that difficult for trains, as they are not affected by traffic jams?
I hope that something can be done about this so that public transport will be associated with convenience rather than time wastage.
