I WOULD like to comment on the actions of SMRT station staff, which I witnessed on Saturday, Aug 23.
A member of the public had reported a suspicious-looking article which had been left by the entrance of Bugis MRT station.
The article in question was a poster tube about 36 inches long and 4 inches in diameter.
A male staff member approached the item and then proceeded to pick it up, hold it close to his ear and shake it. I was appalled at the action.
What if the tube had been packed with explosives? What is the point of the endless messages we receive in MRT stations to report suspicious-looking articles if this is the response of the staff? Isn't it better to be safe than sorry?
The staff member's actions could have placed many passengers' lives at risk and was totally unacceptable.
