THEY thought they had the perfect plan.
Three men in Malaysia planned to carry out a carjacking.
They were going to play on drivers' sympathy by lying on the road in Banting near Kuala Lumpur, pretending to be victims of a road accident.
When a concerned driver stopped to help, they would pounce on the driver and rob the good Samaritan of his wheels.
The scheme worked a little too well at first, fooling five plainsclothes policemen who stopped to help the "accident victims".
Banting police told Guang Ming Daily that the suspects were lying in the middle of the road when the five plainclothes policemen drove by early Thursday morning.
Believing the three men to be hurt, the police officers got out of their car to take a look.
At this point, the carjackers got up and bolted for the officers' car.
The shocked officers immediately identified themselves and surrounded the three suspects.
Unfortunately, two carjackers managed to slip away, but the third was arrested.
According to Banting police, these men are believed to be part of a larger carjacking syndicate.
And a 19-year-old suspect, believed to be linked to the ring, had been arrested earlier on 3 Aug.
