I WOULD like to applaud SMRT for continuously putting in the effort to increase train frequencies to better serve an ever-increasing number of commuters, as more people are switching to public transport due to the current financial crisis.
Although SMRT has improved its services to take us from point A to point B at a faster pace, those of us not living near MRT stations still have to depend on inefficient bus services.
In Tampines, for example, waiting for bus service No. 291 is a nightmare for commuters taking it during the morning and evening peak hours, despite numerous feedback given to the authorities.
The infrequency has led to jam-packed buses and bus bunching.
Operators usually blame their problems on the traffic.
I am sure commuters in other estates are encountering similar problems.
With technology, maybe it is time that commuters should be able to communicate with the authorities via SMS on low bus frequencies and other problems.
These pieces of feedback could be consolidated at the end of the month, and hefty fines could be imposed on bus operators.
Time is precious, and with the Government encouraging more people to take public transport, we cannot let the poor management of bus services disrupt our schedules.

Raise temperatures on buses
THE air temperature on buses, especially "bendy" buses, is too low.
The air-conditioning should be adjusted to a higher temperature, and energy and money could be saved.
