Merc E-Class launch

NEW STA CENTRE IN BOON LAY

Motorists living and working in the west can now go to STA's new inspection centre in Jalan Boon Lay for the mandatory annual routine.

The 5,400 sq m centre is just next to a huge workshop STA is building and completing next year.

That makes it convenient for those who need to get a few things fixed in order to pass the inspection. STA has forked out $110 million to build the two facilities.

Motorists can renew their road tax at the inspection centre. They can also get quotes from 18 different insurers.

MERC E-CLASS LAUNCH

Mercedes-Benz dealer Cycle & Carriage launched its latest E-class and E-class Coupe here on Wednesday.

Prices for the E-class range from $186,888 for the 184bhp 1.8-litre E200CGI to $349,888 for the 388bhp 5.5-litre E500.

The sharp-looking E-class Coupe, which shares the C-class platform, starts from $212,888 for the 204bhp 1.8-litre E250CGI.

An AMG model, possibly with a compact turbo charged engine, will be released in due course.

TAN CHONG'S GT-R ARRIVES

The export version of Nissan's white-hot GT-R sports car is here, 11/2 years after the first parallel imported units arrived.

The GT-R sold by Nissan distributor Tan Chong will come with a three-year manufacturer's warranty and an English vehicle information system, as well as a slightly higher output of 485bhp.

The export version of the sports car, which has been taking the world by storm since its unveiling in 2007, will also have a higher open-market value. The Black Edition is priced at $299,500.

AT LAST, 1.6-LITRE FOUR-SEAT COUPE-CABRIOLET

Peugeot agent Auto France has launched the 308CC, the only 1.6-litre four-seat coupe-cabriolet here.

The engine is the same turbo charged unit found in recent Peugeot hatches and was co-developed with BMW. Pay $127,900 for the pleasure.

UPDATED CAMRY

The Toyota Camry, Singapore's favourite executive sedan, has undergone a minor nip and tuck.

Changes are obvious only if you look closely. Tweaks were made to the front bumper, radiator grille, head lamps, tail-lamp clusters and rims.
