GM to showcase US production version of Cruze in LA

DETROIT, US (Reuters) - General Motors Co said on Tuesday it will unveil the US production version of its Chevrolet Cruze small sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December.

The Chevy Cruze small car, scheduled to be in US showrooms in the third quarter of 2010, will achieve highway fuel economy ratings of up to 40 miles per gallon, GM said in a statement.

The No.1 US automaker is counting on a series of upcoming vehicles like the Cruze and the Chevy Volt electric car to revitalize its lineup as it tries to reverse a long-running slide in market share after emerging from a government-financed bankruptcy on July 10.

GM said it will also announce plans for initial retail markets for the Volt plug-in electric car during the auto show.
