3 in family killed, 4 hurt in accident

SETIU - The desire of a family from Permatang Pauh, Penang, to visit Terengganu during the school holiday turned tragic after three were killed and four injured in an accident on Friday.

The dead were Toyota Avanza driver Abdul Razak Othman, 49, his daughter, Siti Suraya, 14, and his sister, Fathilah, 53.

Razak's wife, Siti Fauziah Mohamad Amin, 46, another sister Rosidah, 55, and his two children Siti Raihana, 12, and Mohamad Adam, 16, are being treated at Setiu Hospital.

It is learnt that the vehicle spun several times, throwing out and killing Suraya and Fathilah after being sideswiped by a Toyota Hilux from the opposite direction at Km62, Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru at 5pm.

Setiu police chief Deputy Superintendent Rohaizat Abd Ani said the 37-year-old driver of the Toyota Hilux had surrendered himself at Setiu Police Contingent Headquarters at 10pm.

In Ipoh, an Ipoh City Council (MBI) enforcement officer was injured after a tow-truck hit his motorcycle in Jalan Raja Muda Aziz here yesterday at 9.05am.

MBI enforcement and licensing director Abdul Halim Saad said his officer jumped off his motorcycle in time.

The driver was purportedly angry when the officer issued a compound against his vehicle, which was parked outside a parking bay.
