Speeding heavy vehicles nabbed by traffic police

The Traffic Police conducted a five-hour speed enforcement operation against heavy vehicles at Tuas this morning.

A total of 49 heavy vehicles were booked for speeding and various other offences such as failing to keep left.

The highest speed recorded was 91 km/h, which is 31 km/h above the legal vehicle speed limit of 60 km/h.

In 2011, about 4,000 summonses were issued to heavy vehicle drivers for various traffic moving offences such as speeding and failing to keep left, an increase from 3,500 summonses issued in 2010.

Of these, about 1,000 speeding violations were detected for heavy vehicles as compared to about 500 in 2010.
