Caught on camera: Car hits cyclist who suddenly cuts into lane

SINGAPORE - A teenager riding a bicycle was hit by a car when he suddenly cut into the driver's lane.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the cyclist was wearing earphones when the accident happened.

The accident occurred on Friday afternoon at Jurong East Street 21.

A private bus driver, who gave his name as Mr Lin, witnessed the incident, and captured video footage of the accident using a CCTV in his vehicle.

A black Toyota travelling on that lane hit the boy, said Mr Lin. The impact sent the teen flying in the air. He landed on the road at least 3m ahead. He was unconscious for almost 15 minutes and his bike was wrecked.

An in-car camera installed in Mr Lin's bus captured the accident. The teen was taken to hospital with injuries.

According to The New Paper, a spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that the cyclist is a 13-year-old boy.

The police said the driver of the car is a 34-year-old woman, who is assisting in investigations.

Some AsiaOne readers who saw the video of the incident said the cyclist was clearly at fault for suddenly changing lanes.
