I REFER to the commentary by Joy Fang, "Expose nasty drivers to make them change their ways" (my paper, Oct 6).
Many other motorists have had the same experience she described.
Based on my observations and experience, there are several groups of road users who sometimes pose an inconvenience to others:
Tired/drunk drivers
Those who have drunk heavily, are suffering from fatigue, feeling sleepy or are not well should have a good rest before they get behind the wheel.
Alternatively, they should let someone else drive or take public transport.
Difficult taxi passengers
Some passengers request taxi drivers to drop them off at inconvenient locations or to make abrupt turns.
Most cabbies acquiesce to passengers' demands.
This is because they are worried that if they do not, some passengers might lodge complaints.
Passengers should make it a point to inform taxi drivers about their alighting points in advance, and also flag down taxis at a safe location, within a safe braking distance.
Motorcyclists
Motorcyclists should turn their headlights on at all times and wear standard helmets and other protective gear.
They should keep to one lane and signal before overtaking.
They could also wear brightly coloured clothes and refrain from overtaking large vehicles, such as lorry and vans.
Cyclists
They should always ride their bicycles at the leftmost side of the road, face oncoming traffic and avoid cycling on pavements.
They should also dismount when crossing the road and wear protective gear, such as helmet and gloves.
