GPS - teacher of new driving routes

By Jill Alphonsos

WHEN it comes to global positioning system (GPS) units, Mr Jason Teo is a relative newbie, having never owned one until last December.

But now, the economics teacher is hooked.

He and his wife Fenny Isanto (pictured on top), a clinical research associate, bought their first GPS unit - the Holux GPSmile 61 - from a 7-Eleven store at a Shell station before Christmas last year.

The system is currently being sold in all 7-Eleven stores at Shell stations, at the price of $399 (U.P. $499, offer until Feb 3).

"It teaches me new routes to various places all the time," said Mr Teo, 31, with a laugh.

The Holux GPSmile unit, released in November last year, includes the latest Singapore and Malaysia maps, and is supported with data from the Singapore Land Authority and powered by MapKing.

Mr Teo now uses the GPS unit twice a week.

"It's a useful tool that I rely on pretty often, making it great value for money," he said.

For more information on the Holux GPSmile 61, visit www.eastgear.com. Or check it out at 7-Eleven stores at Shell stations.
