Man gets 8 months for stabbing China woman

A MAN who stabbed a China woman in the abdomen was jailed for eight months on Tuesday.
Tan Kian Huat, 61, was given another two months' jail for cheating a coffee stall owner of a pawn ticket and $150.

The two sentences are to run consecutively.

The retiree, who pleaded guilty to both charges in December, was having a money dispute with Ms Zhao Yuzhen, 48, at Block 177 Toa Payoh Central on Oct 19 last year when he stabbed her in a fit of anger.

Ms Zhao, unemployed,had a 1.5cm stab wound in the right lumbar region. She was operated on and discharged three days later.

In an unrelated case, Tan deceived Mr Seet Kim Huat, 59, of a SingPost pawn ticket costing $660 and $150 after handing him an outdated cash cheque on June 8 last year.

He has a previous conviction for theft in 2001.

He could have been jailed for up to five years for causing hurt with a knife. The penalty for cheating is seven years and a fine.
