The Straits Times

AN ALLEGED smash-and-grab thief was charged in a district court on Wednesday with stealing a CashCard from a car at a multi-storey carpark last week.

Sim Soon Huat, 30, unemployed, is accused of stealing from Mr Ang Soon Beng's car at Block 126A Bukit Merah View at about 2am on Feb 8, the second day of Chinese New Year.

It was reported earlier that 22 cars at the multi-storey carpark had their windscreens smashed and CashCards stolen.

Sim was arrested at another carpark in Henderson Crescent on Monday (Feb 11). Police later seized, among other things, an umbrella fitted with a sharp spear head and gloves from his home.

He was remanded at Clementi police division until Tuesday (Feb 19) for investigation.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to three years or fine or both.
