PETALING JAYA: They believed in the adage "knock before you enter".
Two burglars would ring the doorbell of the homes they intended to burgle to see if anyone was at home. If no one answered the door, they would get to work.
The two are believed to have struck at least seven times in Subang Jaya.
Their exploits, however, came to an end yesterday.
At 4.30am, the burglars, who were in a black car, were spotted in USJ 3 by policemen patrolling the area.
Police ordered them to stop but the suspects rammed the patrol car.
As they were trying to reverse, a policemen fired three shots at the burglars' car, one of which hit the tyre.
The driver lost control of the car and it crashed into the divider. The injured burglars were duly arrested.
Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar said one of the suspects was a 22-year-old Thai national with permanent resident status.
The other suspect was a 32-year-old local, who had been recently released on bail while his court case was pending. Both suspects have previous convictions.
"We also recovered tools and equipment used to enter homes," Zainal said.
The suspects had just burgled a home in USJ 3 as police found foreign currencies, valuables and personal documents. The victims were outstation.
Both suspects, who tested positive for syabu, have been remanded for a week.
