The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has suspended the licence of a tobacco retailer at Bukit Panjang Ring Road, who was caught selling cigarettes to underaged youths.

The licence of Green's Provisions Store at 435 Bukit Panjang Ring Road, #01-661, was suspended for six months from March 1 to Aug 31. This is the second time it has committed the offence.

The employee of the outlet who sold the cigarettes to an underaged buyer on Jan 11 was given a compounded fine of $2,000.

This the fourth tobacco retailer to have been suspected in six months. HSA on Monday reminds all tobacco retailers that it is an offence under the Smoking (Control of Advertisements and Sale of Tobacco) Act to sell tobacco products to persons under 18 years.

If caught, they can be fined up to $5,000 for the first conviction, and up to $10,000 on the second or subsequent offence.

Their tobacco retail licences can also be suspended or revoked if they repeat the offence.

'HSA will continue to enforce this prohibition stringently so as to discourage and prevent the illegal sale of tobacco products to underaged youths,' said the authority in a statement.

Members of the public can view the List of Suspended Tobacco Retailers here.

HSA also encourages members of the public who have information on the illegal sale of tobacco products to call the hotline of the Tobacco Regulation Unit of HSA at Tel: 62138930 or 62138931 during office hours.
