PETALING JAYA: A 7-year-old boy was released in Puchong on Friday night after his family reportedly paid the kidnappers a ransom of RM6 million.

Federal CID director Datuk Bakri Zinin confirmed the boy's release but remain tightlipped otherwise.

Sources familiar with the case said that the boy was kidnapped on March 1 by four men at the newly opened NiuZeXui or NZX Commercial Centre in Ara Damansara.

"The boy was with his family around 9pm when four men grabbed him and bundled him into a car.

"They sped off before the stunned family could do anything," the source said.

"Several bystanders witnessed the incident and alerted police.

"A task force was quickly put together to investigate the case."

The boy is the youngest son of a prominent businessman with dealings mainly in land and property.

The family later received a call from the kidnappers demanding RM15 million.

Negotiations between the family and kidnappers continued until the end of the week when a ransom of RM6 million was agreed on.

Details of how the ransom was paid are sketchy but the boy was released in Puchong on Friday night.

It is learnt that the boy had been taken out of the Klang Valley and held captive in a neighbouring state.

Police are mounting a manhunt for the kidnappers.

It is learnt that the boy though traumatised by the ordeal is otherwise unharmed.
